The type species (holotype) of the genus Klebsormidium is Klebsormidium flaccidum (Kützing) P.C.Silva, K.R.Mattox & W.H.Blackwell.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hormidiopsis crenulata (Kützing) Heering

Type information
Type locality: Italy: Padova (damp walls in hot houses) (Silva 1996-to date). Lectotype: G. Meneghini; L sheet 939.67-834 (Lokhorst 1996: 30). Notes: Lectotype: annotated as "1/280"', Hormidium crenulatum, Patavii". On wet and warm wall of a bath house, Padua (Mikhailyuk et al., 2015: 762). Epitype: strain SAG 37.86 designated by Mikhailyuk et al. (2015: 762) to support the lectotype and the authentic strain of K. crenulatum. It is cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen in the SAG.It was isolated by H. Trenkwalder (original no. T 93) from a soil from Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy and was previously identified as Ulothrix tenuissima.

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), crenulate, having small rounded teeth (Stearn 1973).
