Type locality: "first point north of Carmel Beach" Carmel, California, U.S.A (Hughey & Hommersand 2010: 122). Lectotype: A.V. Manza; 18 July 1935; UC 539561, 547655, 547644 (part of a single gathering) (Hughey & Hommersand 2010: 122). Notes: "Type: UC 547654; Syntypes: 539561, 547655 (male)" (see Abbott, Syesis 4: 64. 1972.).

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), flaccid, not able to hold up its own weight (Stearn 1973).
