The type species (lectotype) of the genus Spirotaenia is Spirotaenia condensata Brébisson.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tortitaenia alpina (Schmidle) A.J.Brook.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), alpine, growing in the Alps or in the alpine zone of other mountains (Stearn 1973).
