Type information
Type locality: Devonshire, England (Harvey 1833: 349). Type: On Ceramium rubrum. TCD Notes: Torquay, [Wales?]; embedded within a mica slide deposited at the herbarium of TCD (0011750) (Clayden & Saunders, 2014: 226).

Taxonomic notes
According to Woelkerling (1973: 94) this species is a synonym of Audouinella secundata [=Acrochaetium secundatum, as Colaconema secundata (Lyngbye) Woelkerling]. On the other hand, Borsje (1973), on germinating tetraspores of an entity similar to this species in culture, obtained gametangial plants answering descriptions of Acrochaetium parvulum (Lyngbye) Naëgeli.
