Lectotype locality: Cornwall, England; (Irvine & Johansen 1994: 41) Lectotype: Ellis (1755), pl. 24, fig. 3 in the absence of a specimen : see below (epitype) (Irvine & Johansen 1994: 41) Notes: An epitype was designated by Brodie et al. (2013, fig. 5; BM001032350): England: South Devon, Plymouth Sound, Renny Rocks, 8 March 2012, leg. Christine A. Maggs (J. Brodie specimen code: JBCorallina 2012-2), at lower littoral, N50:19:07, W4:07:18. Genbank accession numbers: JX315327 [cox1], and JX315328 [rbcL].

Adjective (Latin), elongated (Stearn 1973).

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Whitish-pink to reddish-lilac, calcified, articulated fronds, fish-bone-like arrangement, to 50 mm high, axis compressed, repeatedly pinnate from discoid base, more abundantly and regularly branched than C. officinalis. Articulations small. Revised description (Brodie et al., 2013: 54).

Habitat
On rock, exposed coasts, lower intertidal, southern and western coasts, occasional.
