The type species (holotype) of the genus Aulacoseira is Melosira crenulata (Ehrenberg) Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stellarima distincta (J.A.Long, Fuge & J.Smith) G.R.Hasle & P.A.Sims.
