Type locality: U.S.A.: Minnesota: St. Peter, Nicollet County; (Index Nominum Algarum) Type: W.E. Hoffmann; on shell of snapping turtle, Chelydra serpentina; MIN; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: According to Boedeker et al. (2012: 821), the holotype is lost, thus the original drawings represent the holotype material (Hoffmann & Tilden 1930: figs 2-22)

Adjective A (Latin), thick (Stearn 1973).
