This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Thalassiosira brunii Akiba & Y.Yanagisawa.

Cocos Ridge: Eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. 06 37.36N, 85 14.16W (DSDP sample 158-27-6, 30-32 cm). Late Middle to Early Late Miocene.;
