Type locality: "Simoda, Japan ; on rocks at low tide." (Harvey 1860: 331). Lectotype: C. Wright; TCD (Masuda et al. 1995: 193, fig. 4). Notes: Lectotype designated (20 July 1973) by R. Wiseman.

Adjective A (Latin), pertaining to Japan (Stearn 1973).
