Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Chrysymenia is Chrysymenia ventricosa (J.V.Lamouroux) J.Agardh.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Botryocladia wrightii (Harvey) W.E.Schmidt, D.L.Ballantine & Fredericq

Type information
Type locality: "Hakodadi, Japan." [Hakodate, Hokkaido] (Harvey 1860: 332). Lectotype: C. Wright; 'on rocks at low tide'. TCD (Masuda et al. 1995: 196, fig. 19).

Distributional notes
This species was introduced accidentally, probably via oysters from Japan, into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 227), being first found in the Etang de Thau (France) in 1978. It has also been reported adventive in the NE Atlantic north to the south coast of England (Bunker 2014). - (5 Nov 2015) - M.D. Guiry
