Type information
Type locality: Banyuls-sur-mer, France (Athanasiadis 1996: 69). Neotype: G IG110783 (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 23). Notes: A specimen said to have been discovered by Athanasiadis (pers. comm. in Maggs & Hommersand, 1993) is said by the authors to have priority over the neotype designated by Athanasiadis (1985a, fig. 12.). However, Athanasiadis (1996: 69) retains the neotype.

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), crisped, irregularly waved and twisted (Stearn 1973).
