Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.

Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Eponomy
Named for the collector, Dr. James Morrow.

Nomenclatural notes
This species was introduced accidentally, probably via oysters from Japan or Korea, into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 213), being first found in the Etang de Thau (France) in 1997. - (5 Nov 2015) - M.D. Guiry

Habitat notes
Has been reported growing on a wide variety of substrata, including rocks, wooden piles, ropes, mussels, crabs and tunicates (D'Archino et al. 2013). - (18 Apr 2013) - Wendy Guiry
