Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Prionitis is Prionitis ligulata J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Prionitis sternbergii (C.Agardh) J.Agardh.
Type Information
Syntype localities: "Esquimalt, on tidal rocks and rock-pools. Dr. Lyall; Fuca Strait, C. B. Wood."; (Harvey 1862: 178) Lectotype: D. Lyall; TCD; (Gabrielson 2008: 91) Notes: The specimen labeled var. normalis (invalidly published and replaced by P. lyallii var. lyalii) is selected as the lectotype of P. lyallii by Gabrielson (2008). Lectotype: Esquimalt, British Columbia, Canada, January 1859, leg. D. Lyall.
