The type species (lectotype) of the genus Chroolepus is Chroolepus jolithus (Linnaeus) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Trentepohlia arborum (C.Agardh) Hariot.

Adjective (Latin), villous, shaggy with farily long soft straight not interwoven ascending hairs (Stearn 1973).
