The type species (holotype) of the genus Entophysalis is Entophysalis granulosa Kützing.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Entophysalis collinsii G.De Toni.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), violet, refers to the blue-red colours nearer blue (Stearn 1973).
