Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Klebsormidium is Klebsormidium flaccidum (Kützing) P.C.Silva, Mattox & W.H.Blackwell.

Type Information
Type locality: near Staverden, The Netherlands; (Lokhorst 1996: 28) Type: G.M. Lokhorst; 24 November 1992; algal coat luxuriantly growing on bark on the foot of an oak tree; L; (Hulburt 1956: 28) Notes: Epitype: strain SAG 7.96 designated by Mikhailyuk et al. (2015: 764) to support the type specified above; it is proposed as the authentic strain of K. elegans and is cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen in the SAG. Strain SAG 7-96 was isolated by Lokhorst from the type locality(original number KL 24).
