Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Katodinium is Katodinium nieuportense (Conrad) Fott.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Opisthoaulax piscinalis (Fott) Calado.

Type locality: in piscina prope Lnáre (Bohemia); (Index Nominum Algarum)
