The type species (lectotype) of the genus Trachelomonas is Trachelomonas volvocina (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Trachelomonas fusiformis f. annulata (Svirenko) T.G.Popova.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), caudate, i.e., ending with a tail-like appendage (Stearn 1973).
