Agardh 33993 (Kraft & Womersley 1994: 462) Notes: "Type: Ad litus mari inundatum penins. Levevre, Dec. 16 1847, F. Mueller s.n. (lecto, here designated: MEL0044483; isolecto:
MEL5163780–82)." (Kraft & Saunder 2017: 241); however, Kraft & Womersley (1994: 462) had already designated LD 33993 as lectotype and this cannot be superseded.

Adjective B (Latin), acicular, i.e., narrow, stiff, pointed like a needle (Stearn 1973).
General Environment
This is a marine species.
Habitat
From just subtidal to 24 m deep, in moderately sheltered localities; grows on rocks, wooden pilings, and more rarely as an epiphyte or epizoic (Kraft & Womersley 1994: 464). Infested with partly endophytic hydrozoan Plumaria flexuosa.
