Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Acrochaetium liagorae Børgesen

Taxonomic notes
According to Woelkerling & Womersley (1994: 69), Audouinella liagorae (Boergesen) Woelkerling 1971 is the accepted name for this species. Garbary (1987: 44, 45) notes that this taxon was suggested as a replacement for Acrochaetium liagorae Borgesen, and is a synonym for Audouinella liagorae (Borgesen) Woelkerling. According to Silva et al. (1996:99), Audouinella liagorae (Borgesen) Woelkerling is a synonym of Acrochaetium liagorae Borgesen.
