This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mazzaella laminarioides (Bory) Fredericq
Type locality: In oceano pacifico septentrionale (Postels & Ruprecht 1840: 18). Type: LE (Hommersand, Guiry, Fredericq & Leister 1993: 110). Notes: In oceano pacifico septentrionali. Hughey, Silva & Hommersand (2001: 1103) showed that the type of I. cornucopiae, alleged to have come from the NW coast of North America, but based on its ITS 1 sequence, was the same as Mazzaella laminarioidesfrom Chile.

Adjective (Latin), resembling the Horn of Plenty.
