Type locality: "An der halländischen Küste bei Varberg und bei Hogardsgrund ausserhalb Kungsbackafjorden." Sweden: Halland Prov. (Kylin 1906: 123). Type: LD Notes: Halland coast of Sweden (Woelkerling, 1971).
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), pectinate, with narrow close-set divisions like a comb (Stearn 1973).

Placed in Acrochaetium by Nielsen et al. (1995). Bopillot & Magne (1973) suggest that Atlantic and Pacifc material may not be identical. West (1968) has documented the morphological changes in reponse to environmental variables in culture.
This is a marine species.
