This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Thaumatella adunca (J.Agardh) Parsons & Womersley.

Type locality: King George Sound, Western Australia; (Womersley 2003: 242) Lectotype: LD; Herb. alg. Agardh 44372 (Womersley 2003: 242) Notes: Probable isolectotype in MEL, 1006689 (Womersley, 2003).
