Type locality: James Bay, James Island, Galapagos Islands (Woelkerling 1998: 301). Lectotype: collector not indicated; date not indicated but material forms part of the St George Expedition of 1923-1924 associated with C. Crossland; BM algal box collection 304 (Woelkerling 1998: 301). Notes: Isolectotypes: PC, unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym); BM, algal box collections 305, 1001, 1044. Paratypes: PC, unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym); BM, algal box collections 306, 328, 861, 1044.

Participle B (Latin), alternating (Stearn 1992).
