Description
Valves linear, vaulted, sigmoid, tapering to obtuse apices. Length 200-400 mm, width 25-35 mm. Longitudinal and transverse striae 11-15 in 10 mm. Raphe central, undulate. External central raphe fissures dedflected in opposite directions. Central bars thick and chunky, surrounded by large hyaline areas. At the apex, above raphe fissures and helictoglossa there is a row of pores. Two plate-like, incised chloroplasts lying under the valve along the length of the cell.
