This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Limnolyngbya circumcreta (G.S.West) X.Li & R.Li..

Cunnington 249, 252 (Bukoba specimens); 620 (Entebbe specimens); (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: Neotype: HAB2014-0112, fixed material of the culture CHAB 5683, deposite at IHB, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Li & Li, 2016).
