Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Ganonema is Ganonema farinosum (J.V.Lamouroux) K.C.Fan & Yung C.Wang.

This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Type information
Type locality: Sand Key, Florida, USA (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 126). Lectotype: TCD Herb. Harvey (Huisman, Abbott & Sherwood 2004: 302).

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), with leaflets arranged on each side of a common petiole.
