The type species (lectotype) of the genus Oedogonium is Oedogonium grande Kützing ex Hirn.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Oedogonium sexangulare var. angulosum (Hallas) Hirn.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), strongly angled, with prominent angles (Stearn 1973).
