The type species (holotype) of the genus Striatella is Striatella unipunctata (Lyngbye) C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hyalosira delicatula var. gibbosa (Østrup) A.Witkowski, Lange-Bertalot & Metzeltin.
