Tentamen hydrophytologiae danicae continens omnia hydrophyta cryptogama Daniae, Holsatiae, Faeroae, Islandiae, Groenlandiae hucusque cognita, systematice disposita, descripta et iconibus illustrata, adjectis simul speciebus norvegicis. pp. [i]-xxxii, -248, 70 pls. Hafniae [Copenhagen]: typis Schultzianis, in commissis Librariae Gyldendaliae.
The type species (holotype) of the genus Scytosiphon is Scytosiphon filum var. lomentarius (Lyngbye) C.Agardh.

Type locality: Woolwich, London, England? (Hayden et al. 2003: 289). Lectotype: Dillenius (1742: pl. 9: fig. 7) (epitype) OXF (Yoshida 1998 Notes: Blomster et al. (1999) select a lectotype (epitype) of Dillenius (1742: pl. 9: fig. 7); see also Hayden et al. (2003: 289). Type locality: 'in Mari omni' (South & Skelton, 2003).
