The type species (lectotype) of the genus Delesseria is Delesseria sanguinea (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Erythroglossum californicum (J.Agardh) J.Agardh.

Type Information
Notes: Dawson (1962: 93, 94) notes that the type is not specifically designated, consisting of two specimens on one sheet in Herb. Agardh, Lund, Sweden and that the type locality is not specifically designated, the two specimens: Nr. 31387 "California, Farlow," Nr. 31388 "Santa Barbara [California] L. N. Dimmick" (illustrated by Kylin).

Adjective A (Latin), pertaining to California (Stearn 1973).
