Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Amphidinium is Amphidinium operculatum Claparède & Lachmann.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Togula britannica (Herdman) Flø Jørgensen, Shauna Murray, & Daugbjerg.

Basionym
Amphidinium asymmetricum var. britannicum Herdman
