The type species (holotype) of the genus Diplosphaera is Diplosphaera chodatii Bialosuknia.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Diplosphaera chodatii var. mucosa (Broady) Pröschold & Darienko.

Type locality: Antarctica: Vestfold Hills: above Clear Lake; (Broady 1983: 473) Notes: Epitypification in Pröschold & Dareinko (2020: 138) is invalid as it does not include a designation.
