The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halymenia durvillei Bory.

Adjective A (Latin), Of (from) Ceylon, an island in the Indian Ocean off southern India (cf. ceylonensis & ceylonicus).
