Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dilsea carnosa (Schmidel) Kuntze.

Type locality: Dieppe, Normandy, France; (Schmidel 1794: 75)

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), fleshy, succulent, soft but firm (Stearn 1973).
