Type locality: San Esteban Island, Gulf of California (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 771). Holotype: Ivan M. Johnston (No. 53b); April; Growing in the fronds of Grateloupia prolongata J. Ag.. Herb. Calif. Acad. Sci. 1363 (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 771).
