Lectotype locality: Pointe de Querqueville, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, France; (Thuret & Bornet 1878: 96) Lectotype: E. Bornet; 31 December 1855; on Jania squamata; PC; unnumbered, Thuret-Bornet Herbarium (algal fascicle 130, filed under Choreonema), includes one unnumbered slide; designated by Woelkerling, 1987: 113 (Chamberlain & Irvine 1994: 34) Notes: This type locality was first described by Woelkerling (1987a: 113). Extra information in Woelkerling (1998: 381). Thuret cited "Harvey, Phycologia Britannica, tab. CCI, fig. 5-8."

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Found on the geniculate corallines Haliptilon roseum and less often on Jania verrucosa and J. micrarthrodia; host thalli containing the endophyte collected intertidally from pools and rockplatforms and subtidally to depths of 25m (Womersley 1996: 214).
