The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pterocladia lucida (R.Brown ex Turner) J.Agardh.

Type locality: southern Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 145) Holotype: Brown; BM; (Womersley & Guiry 1994: 137) Notes: According to Womersley & Guiry (1994: 137) the type is from "S coast of N. Holl.".
