Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kapraunia amplacapilli (B.Kim & M.S.Kim) Savoie & G.W.Saunders.

Type locality: Udo Strait, Jeju Island, Korea (33º29'33.98" N, 126º55'29.10" E); (Kim & Kim 2014: 185) Holotype (female gametophyte) : July 5, 2012; subtidal zone; JNUB; UD120705-1 (Kim & Kim 2014: 185, 184) Notes: Isotypes: JNUB (UD120705-2 - UD120705-4), NIBR (NI-BRAL0000138757 - NIBRAL0000138759).
