The type species (holotype) of the genus Zostera is Zostera marina Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halodule uninervis (Forsskål) Ascherson.

Type Information
Neotype locality: Eritrea: Assab, Red Sea coast; (Ferrer-Gallego & Boisset 2020: 181) Neotype: W.J.J.O. de Wilde and B.E.E. de Wilde-Duyfjes 7287; 16 July 1965; marine; WAG; WAG0086357 and 2-D code WAG.1411282 (Ferrer-Gallego & Boisset 2020: 181) Notes: According Ferrer-Gallego & Boisset (2020: 181), to Hepper & Friis (1994) noted the absence of a type for Zostera uninervis. Its absence in the Forsskål Herbarium in Copenhagen (C) was confirmed by Olof Ryding (pers. comm.). Accordingly they selected a neotype.
