The type species (holotype) of the genus Minutocellus is Minutocellus polymorphus (Hargraves & Guillard) Hasle, Stosch, & Syvertsen.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lambertocellus africanus (Dabek & Witkoski) Dabek, Witkowski & Ashworth.

Type locality: South Africa, Western Cape Province, Lamberts Bay; (Dabek et al. 2017: 349) Holotype: open coast of the Atlantic Ocean with sandy beach ; Coll. Andrzej Witkowski (SZCZ); slide no. SZCZ 17497 (Dabek et al. 2017: 349) Notes: Isotype: slide no. BM 101688. Collector: P. Dabek, A. Witowski, C. Archibald (16.ii. 2011) (INA). [Clonal culture and DNA isolation were obtained from sample taken near rocky outcrops (32°5.179' S, 18°18.70'E), containing sand from the intertidal sand flat, collected by PD and TGB (21/5/2015)].
