The type species (holotype) of the genus Symphyocladia is Symphyocladia marchantioides (Harvey) Falkenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Symphyocladiella gracilis (Kylin) D.Bustamante, B.Y.Won, S.C.Lindstrom & T.O.Cho.

Syntype localities: On the piles of Friday Harbor's dock, San Jauan Islands; Canoe Island, Shaw Island, Washington, USA.; (Kylin 1925: 72) Notes: USA: Washington: San Juan Islands (Friday Harbor and Canoe Island); collector: H. Kylin (Pterosiphonia gracilis Kylin, see INA).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), feathery (Stearn 1973).
