This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulacanthus ustulatus (Turner) Kützing.

Type Information
Lectotype locality: Cádiz, Spain; (Silva & al. 1996: 282) Type: Clemente; BM-K; (Athanasiadis 1996: 60) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Searles (1968: 46, pl. 10a) who selected Cádiz as the type locality. Turner reported seeing specimens from Clemente (Cádiz) and the Mediterranean (Dr Mohr)

Adjective B (Latin), acicular, i.e., narrow, stiff, pointed like a needle (Stearn 1973).
