The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phyllotricha verruculosa (C.Agardh) R.R.M.Dixon & Huisman.

Type locality: Western Australia (probably King George Sound or Esperance); (Silva & al. 1996: 706) Type: PC; (Womersley 1987: 429) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Womersley (1987: 429) for more information on the type locality of this species.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), covered with small wart-like outgrowths (Stearn 1973).
