This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulva australis Areschoug.

Syntype localities: Hakodate, Yenoshima et Yokohama, Japoniae; (Kjellman 1897: 5) Lectotype: the sequenced juvenile specimen from 'Yenoshima' illustrated by kjellman (1897, pl. 1, fig. 3)and represented by GenBank accession no. MT815855: (Hughey & al. 2021: 152)
