Adjective B (Latin), acicular, i.e., narrow, stiff, pointed like a needle (Stearn 1973).

Description
Thalli erect, to 30 mm tall, subdichotomously branched, ecorticate; polysiphonous segments to 60 µm x 60 µm near apices, up to 240 µm broad x 100 µm long in median parts, to 200 µm long x 600 µm broad at base. Trichoblasts narrow at bases (up to 20 µm in diameter), inflated in median portions (60- 100 µm diameter), to 2 3 cells in length ( 3 mm), tapering to pointed apical cell; scar cells to 70 µm in diameter; not all periaxial cells of the spermatangial
branches producing mother cells and thus spermatangia.
