The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Anotrichium elongatum (Harvey) Baldock.

Type locality: "Georgetown" [Tasmania]; (Harvey 1859: 336) Holotype: W.H. Harvey; TCD; Herb. Harvey, Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 534J (Womersley 1998: 353) Notes: Harvey cited Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 534, so Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 534J is the holotype and the distributed duplicates are isotypes.

Adjective (Latin), elongated (Stearn 1973).
