Nomenclatural notes
The name has priority over all other names of this species, which has been mostly known as C. strictum Harvey nom illeg. Two subspecies should be recognized: one comprising the Baltic populations (commonly known as C. tenuicorne) and the North Atlantic and Mediterranean (?) populations, for which a proper basionym should be sought amongst taxa described from the Faroes, Norway, Iceland or Atlantic Europe (Athanasiadis, 1996). The name was first introduced by Waern (1949: 636), listed in INA as a "nomen" and INA credits the name to Waern (1952: 405); see Athanasiadis (12016: 942).

General environment
This is a marine species.
