Type locality: Sandringham, Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia; (Guiry & Womersley 1993: 268) Holotype: Guiry (culture no. 702); 15 May 1988; Moist, shaded, upper eulittoral rock; MELU; A37758 (Guiry & Womersley 1993: 267, 268) Notes: Isotype: AD (A58701).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), entangled, entwined, interwoven, interlaced (Stearn 1973).

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Most common in the mid eulittoral, on open rock in sheltered and moderately rough-water situations, and in shade on rough-water coasts; also found on Avicennia pneumatophores and lower trunks; commonly grows on mussels or on limpets, and may occur in shaded upper eulittoral situations where wave-wash is slight; on horizontal rock on coasts of moderate wave action may cover extensive areas of the lower eulittoral (Guiry & Womersley 1993: 270).
