Type locality: Roundstone Bay, Galway, Republic of Ireland; (Woelkerling 1998: 309) Lectotype: M.H.Foslie; 15-17 April 1899; none given; TRH; A24-1428, includes slide 1730; designated by Woelkerling, 1993: 18 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 196) Notes: Isolectotype: PC, unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), toothed, usually with sharp teeth pointing outwards (Stearn 1973).
